Project Highlights

Winding downspout, drain system

The winding pipe present in the photo was a result of exceptionally unconventional thinking. There was not enough room in the entry of the house where I could fit the gutter pipe, therefore I came up with an idea of using the column as a base and the pipe to complement the whole construction. I was primarily very concerned about the customer’s reaction to my design because it somehow meant altering and ultimately destroying the architecture of the entry.

I spent hours racking my brains over this matter and trying to arrive at a perfect solution. I thought how to add to the entry without destruction of the pervious design. At the very beginning an innovative idea of a triangle-shaped pipe dawned on me. However, I derive great pleasure from overcoming challenges so I decided to opt for a more sophisticated project – I decided to make the pipe round. That proved to be an extremely meticulous, time-consuming and painstaking piece of work. Achieving the ultimate form and the desired effect took me almost a month of 14 or 15 hour day’s work and was an enormous effort on my part. To be honest, I must admit that I stepped into the completely unknown area of architectural conception since never before had I attempted to do the hammering of such a piece.

What added extra difficulty to the whole process of creation was the fact the column was taper-shaped, namely, its bottom was wider than its top so I had to adjust the whole design to its changing vertical section. I take pride in the fact that the whole application, even though it comprises a lot of elements, is seamless and has smooth texture.
